" What are you doing here in cold England?"

Somebody once asked me as they saw how beautiful Reunion Island is. It's so true. We have high mountains, a volcano, beaches, waterfalls, palm trees, exotic fruits, blue seas, breathtaking landscapes. The sun is shining almost all year long.Mind you ! we have winter in Reunion - a winter season which like summer in England- but we do have winter. I know my life on the island was something unique and unforgetable. People call it " Paradise" but as much as I love my " paradise", I don't want to go home.

Honestly the more I live in Sheffield, the more I feel like staying here.

Life in Sheffield is far from being perfect - as I first thought it was.

  • It is cold in winter and I miss the sun.
  • it can be expensive ( obvisouly cheaper than London ) but still expensive.
  • People are not always nice ( as I realized far too late )
  • They drive too fast
  • There are no shutters and the bright sunshine always woke up at 8 in the morning ( but I bought some curtains, what a relief ! )
  • A drunken guy once woke me up at one in the morning shouting " My name is Jaaaaames !!!" next to my window.

Sometimes I have bad days, very bad days then I just want to yell :

"F-you England and go to hell"

But yes, I want to stay here. I can remember these past 5 months pretty well. How excited I was when I saw the snow for the first time, when I met new friends, when I travelled and discovered new cities but I'm also realistic about my future. This paradise in the Indian Ocean would be nice for holidays but would I find a job if I go back home? would I be able to travel or would I be stuck on the island? would I be bored?would there be a way out of this place called " paradise"?

I partly have the answers to these questions. But there is something I know for sure.Europe has so much to offer. It feels good to look at the map and say " I can go there, and there , and there, and I can also go there....how much is the flight....oh that's cheap!...but this flight is cheap too...well let's go there !"

I know understand the feeling I've had these past few months. I understand what is happening inside me. I know why I'm glad to live here, I know why I would be more than happy to stay, because - as strange as it might sound- somehow I feel free.
