Everyday is a new day. It truly is. Life is always surprising me when I least expect it.

1) Thursday morning in class:

- " Miss where do you live?" a 12 year-old girl asked me.

- " I live in Sheffield" I told her and just when i was expecting an answer like " Okay" or " I see" or " good", the girl almost jumped on her feet, turned to her classmate and exclaimed:

- " SHE LIVES IN SHEFFIELD ! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT ! "

I watched the scene with uncomprehension and astonishment, all the while wondering where she thought I lived. If I work here I surely wouldn't live too far from the school. I still have no idea why she was so happy about me living in Sheffield but I have to admit I wasn't expecting this kind of reaction.

2) Approximatively a week ago I opened the fridge and I was happy to find that a friend of mine had left some South African pineapple for me. I enjoyed its sweetness very much.It's always nice when somebody's kind to you and after all who doesn't like sweet things now and then?

3) Back to School:

As we were about to start class a pupil put his hand up. I moved forward and asked him what his question was:

- " Miss, on the island where you lived, are there palm trees?"

I smiled and said yes and was about to ask why but I stopped myself when I saw his eyes sparkling with overwhelming wonder and a huge smile coming across his face

- " That 's so cooool !! " he exclaimed.

I wanted to laugh. I can't get used to the idea that " normal" for me is exotic for the others.

4) On a snowy and cold January night, my roommate managed to get me out of the house by shouting " look, look here! ". I stepped outside to check what was wrong. Nothing. She just wanted to throw a snowball at me.

There will always be something to surprise you. Don't look for it. It will come out of the blue, when you don't expect it. And if you haven't been surprised in days, well, there will be many more opportunities to come because after all... everyday is a new day. It truly is.
