Allô Mama?

When you live in a foreign country and you're far from your family , 2 things suddenly become part of your entire life : Your computer and Skype.I've been using Skype quite a lot lately and I've tried to talk with my family. "Tried" because most of the time I can hardly hear them or they can partly hear me which makes quite original conversations :

" Mum , you know what? Today,I'm so happy because I had dinner with all my roommates and then we went to the cinema and watched a fantastic film !! "

" Yes."

And that was her answer, something which means " I couldn't hear a thing of what you said , but I'll just pretend I heard".I've also noticed that my parents look different. They are not getting older but I can't recognize them anymore.Their faces are usually blurred or so distorted that they don't even look human anymore.We all know the wonders of Skype and how fantastic the conversation can be with a bad connection :

"Can you hear me?"

" I can't hear anything, can you hear me?

" Okay I'll call you back so maybe we can hear each other"

" Is it better now?"

Obviously it's not. And when you think, you've seen the worst of Skype and that you can't be surprised anymore, well then try to Skype with somebody who can't use a computer ( and that's the part I love the most, that's the part I find so entertaining.)

"HOW ARE YOU ?"

" Mum, you don't have to shout, you can speak normally"

"OH, OKAY!"

"Mum, do you know you can see me full screen?just press the square button on the right of the screen, have you found it?"

and that's when the conversation ends, obviously she clicked on the wrong button and hung up. But you never give up, and you try again and call back, this time the conversation is even funnier because you can hear your parents arguing:

" I told you it wasn't this one,you just click everywhere and you don't pay attention".

After a few minutes of semi normal conversation it's time for your parents to leave you, and guess what they ask...

" How do you hang up again?"
